Tom Siporin, who surmounted the challenges of polio and bone cancer to become a successful athlete, civil rights lawyer, poet, painter and play-writer, died on November 15, 2001. Tom was a devoted supporter of the Berkeley Free Folk Festival and contributed his artwork to the Festival both on tee shirts and in art exhibits at Fellowship Hall. He also created a mural in praise of the festival and proudly marched with it in Berkeley parades. I'm sure many of the folkies in the SFFMC are still wearing Tom's tee shirts. There are some tee shirts still available and it will be decided later how to distribute them. Thanks Tom for your love and special contributions to art in Berkeley.

St. Martin, whose mass is near the winter solstice, is the patron saint of wine vintners who, while riding his white horse across field and meadow, released the first snow of the season from the folds of his cloak. In Europe, St. Martin's Day was one of feasting and also when the first of the new wine was drunk. Way to go, St. M!
